It is very important for any pet owner to make sure that that they are giving their beloved dog the best food possible. This is especially the case for puppies. A puppy needs special nutrients, just like a human baby, to help them develop and grow.

So, when you have a puppy, you want to ensure that you are not only giving them puppy formula, but also a high-quality kibble. One of the popular choices for pups is the large and giant breed puppy food from Wellness, brand. Does it stand up to the hype? Let’s find out.

Wellness Natural Pet Food 89115 Complete Health Natural Dry Large Breed Puppy Food, Chicken, Salmon & Rice, 30-Pound Bag

This large and giant breed puppy food from the Wellness brand is formulated to exclusively meet the needs of a large breed dog. Large breeds tend to require puppy food for much longer than smaller breeds, as they take longer to grow into their bigger bodies.

The product contains chicken, carrots, and salmon oil, and it is a complete diet for a growing dog. All of the ingredients are designed to target your dog’s immunity, skin and coat, energy levels, digestive health, and its teeth, eyes, and gums…all signs of a healthy pet.

Who is this Product For?

The Wellness brand of puppy food for larger breeds is for people who have puppies that will grow into a large breed dog. The brand states that the ideal dog for this food is one that will be 50 pounds or more when they are fully grown.

Since the Wellness brand is a premium dog food, it does come with a premium price, so for some people with large puppies, it can be difficult to add this brand into the budget.

Remember, large puppies eat more and more as they grow, and it’s not recommended to switch a dog’s food too often. So, if you go with this brand, make sure that it’s something that you will stick to for the long run.

What’s Included

When you order this Wellness large breed food for puppies, you get a 30-pound bag of food, which is delivered to your door. The bag is heavy, of course, and it does not come with any other food products or accessories, such as a scoop. The product is backed by the company’s Wellness Guarantee, and the product is made only in the United States.

Overview of Features

Before ordering this large breed puppy food, you should be aware of a few of its features. First, when compared to other dog foods, this food has rather large kibbles.

It might be fine for most large breed dogs, but those on the smaller side might have trouble chewing or swallowing these bites, especially if they are very young. This dog food does contain a rich assortment of ingredients.

These include deboned chicken, salmon meal, ground peas and barley, chicken fat, tomatoes, flax seed, salmon oil, and sweet potatoes. The company does not add any artificial flavors, preservatives, or colors in this food, nor does it have wheat, soy, corn, or any animal by-products.

How to Use It

The Wellness brand features a feeding chart on the back of the bag of this dog food. Owners have to look at the chart, determine how much their puppy weighs, and then feed the dog accordingly.

As the puppy grows larger, you will have to adjust the amount of food you are giving him or her. A dog that is about 50 pounds would get about five cups of food per day, while a very large dog of about 100 pounds would get eight cups of food per

The biggest downside of this puppy food from Wellness  is the price. It’s quite expensive when you compare it to other similar products. However, with that cost comes the knowledge that you are giving your dog a complete diet that they need to develop and grow. If the cost is too much, and for many people out there, it is, there are some alternatives.

Hill’s Science Diet, for instance, has a puppy food for larger breeds that is made of chicken meal and oats, and its more affordable for the same sized bag. You might also consider Blue Life Protection Formula Large Breed Puppy Formula. It is slightly more affordable, as well.

Overall, we found this puppy food from Wellness to be a high-quality kibble with a great reputation. Other reviewers tend to like it too, though there are certainly people out there who say their dog just doesn’t like this food and won’t eat it.

The ingredients in this food are highly recommended by veterinarians, and it definitely contains the nutrients that a large breed dog needs. Of course, this is only good for your dog if you can afford it, because again, we found it to be one of the most expensive wide-spread large breed dog foods on the market.

About the Author Angela Miller

Hello, my name is Angela Miller. Several years ago, I rescued a little seven-year-old Bichon Frise. I started looking into dog nutrition so I could keep my little love bug for as long as I possibly could. I love my dog too much to feed him unhealthy food. I hope some of the things I've learned along the way will help you and your dog.
